Agnes Waruguru
Multidisciplinary
Agnes Waruguru is a Kenyan multidisciplinary artist whose practice spans painting, sculpture, installation, and performance. Selected as one of The Artsy Vanguard 2025 artists, Waruguru creates work that addresses themes of identity, postcolonialism, and the African diaspora experience.
Her powerful visual language combines traditional African aesthetics with contemporary art practices, resulting in works that are both culturally specific and universally resonant. Waruguru's installations often incorporate found objects and textiles, creating immersive environments that tell stories of displacement, resilience, and cultural hybridity.
Based in Nairobi with a growing international presence, Waruguru's work has been exhibited at major biennials and galleries worldwide. Her practice represents a new generation of African artists who are redefining contemporary art on their own terms, challenging Western-centric narratives while creating deeply personal and politically engaged work.
