Brandhoek
Sculptural Photography & Fine Art Editions
What happens when a wild animal sits on a sofa? Something foreign enters a familiar space. Something that was outside suddenly stands inside. And in that moment, perspective shifts. Brandhoek doesn't just show animals on sofas – Brandhoek shows encounters. Between civilization and wilderness. Between control and freedom. Between possession and loss.
Each work poses a quiet question: Who is actually the guest here? It reminds us that we once displaced nature – and now it returns, quietly and naturally. Not aggressive, not threatening, but simply there. As it always was. Brandhoek aims to create awareness – not with a raised finger, but through beauty, irritation, and stillness.
Behind Brandhoek stands Brand Mewis, a German designer and entrepreneur. For over two decades, he has developed projects spanning design, architecture, and material culture – always with an eye for revealing new perspectives in the familiar. Mallorca is his home, South Africa his inspiration, Burning Man his reset. His works emerge from clarity, conviction, and the courage to see things differently.
